في هذه الحلقة من برنامج الدحيح مع أحمد الغندور، نستعرض رحلة تطوير لقاح شلل الأطفال (البوليو) خلال خمسينيات القرن الماضي، عندما اجتاح المرض الولايات المتحدة وأثار خوفاً واسعاً بين ملايين الأمريكيين. نتتبع جهود علماء بارزين مثل جوناس سولك وروبرت سابين للوصول إلى لقاح فعّال، ونكشف الدور الذي لعبته حملة March of Dimes في جمع التمويل اللازم للأبحاث عبر حملة دعائية غير مسبوقة استندت إلى إثارة المخاوف من المرض خلال فترة صعبة اقتصادياً. كما تناقش الحلقة الجانب المظلم من هذه القصة؛ إذ جاء التقدم العلمي بثمن أخلاقي معقّد شمل إجراء تجارب على أطفال أيتام وأشخاص من ذوي الإعاقات، في وقت لم تكن توجد فيه القوانين والضمانات الكافية لحماية المشاركين في الأبحاث الطبية.
